Pinned It, Made It, Monday!

This is the best thing about Mondays for me. I love that it encourages me to actually get some things done from Pinterest and I also love seeing other people's ideas! Please join in on the fun by going to Country Girl at Home . Tammy is a real sweetie and like I said it is a good thing about Mondays!

I had this pin on how to dry fruit to make a garland. The pin is from http://themagiconions.blogspot.com. I always thought that dried fruit looked neat and I figured it was easy enough that I could even do it so here is my process.
First of all the directions I found said to boil the fruit after slicing them...I used just apples and oranges. Here they are in their steam bath.

Then it said to blanche them in a ice bath so I did that...I actually think it was a few steps that weren't really necessary but I couldn't find an easy way to do it when I wanted to. Here they are in their ice bath...
Dried them really well on paper towels.
Then into the oven set at 150 to bake...it said for four hours but I left mine in about 6 hours, I think my oven was shocked at being used. LOL
I got them all out and used them in this bowl for a bowl filler. I also put some in a mason jar and tied homespun around the neck. My camera batteries ran out of course so I didn't get a picture of that. I like the way they turned out.
Thanks for reading and have a great Monday!

Cindi, these came out so pretty! I also never tried this technique, just baked them, maybe that's why they never looked as good as yours..lol! Thanks for sharing ~

Hi, Cindi ~ I love how your dried fruit turned out! Dried fruit is so pretty! I dried some apples and oranges a few weeks ago--and, of course--LOL--I did it differently than anyone else! For instance, I sliced my oranges...then I layered several paper towels in a pie plate, put my oranges down in a single layer, then put more paper towels on top of them, and microwaved them for about a minute or so...then, after taking them out, and cooling them some, I let them air dry for about a week on some dry paper towels, turning them every so often. (For the apples slices, I dipped them in lemon juice before microwaving them, so they wouldn't turn.) BUT, I must say, baking them in the oven would be a much quicker process. I must try this! Have a great day! ~Karen

Well that sounds easy enough and I can just imagine the heavenly smells in your kitchen during this process! I love how yours turned out, Cindi! They look great displayed in the bowl! I'm going to try it too! Jason just pulled out my fall tub for me to decorate today! I'm going to get started today and then dry some fruit to add!

Thank you so much for participating in Pinned it Made it Monday! I find myself looking forward to Mondays too. It motivates me and it is fun seeing what all you ladies have been doing! :)

Blessings,
Tammy

Hey, hey, hey!!!!! I can post today. Yea!!!! The fruit is so beautiful Cindy. Even dried they kept such great color. I bet it's because you blanched them. This is easy enough to do:) Thanks for the idea. Have a great day. -Steph-

That sounded simple enough that I think I could even do it! Of course, my luck, I'd burn the fruit! lol! Yours turned out really pretty and I seriously may have to give this one a try. Visiting from Tammy's party! Have a blessed day!
